Claude closing itself on iPhone, Android or desktop? These steps stop the crash loop.

A crash loop — the app opening then closing immediately, or dying mid-conversation — is nearly always caused by a corrupt local cache, an outdated build, or a very long conversation.
1. Update the app
Install the latest build from the App Store, Play Store or your desktop updater. Crash bugs are patched frequently and old builds can break after a server-side change.
2. Force-close and restart the device
Swipe the app away completely, then restart the phone or computer. This clears the stuck process rather than resuming it.
3. Clear app storage
On Android use Settings, Apps, Claude, Storage, Clear cache (not Clear data unless you are ready to sign in again). On iOS, offload and reinstall the app. On desktop, sign out and reinstall.
4. Avoid the conversation that triggers it
Very long threads and large attached files are common crash triggers. Start a new conversation and see whether stability returns. If loading itself hangs, see Claude app won't load.
5. Check free storage and memory
Under roughly 1 GB of free space, mobile apps are terminated aggressively by the operating system. Free space and retry.
6. Rule out a service incident
Crashes clustered around a specific time often coincide with an incident — check Claude not responding and the status page.
