Claude Not Responding

Claude is silent, stops mid-sentence, or spins forever. Work through these steps in order — most people are fixed by step three.

Step 1 — Check live status

If Anthropic reports degraded service, stop here and wait. The status banner at the top of this site updates automatically.

Step 2 — Hard reload

Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows/Linux, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac. On mobile, force-quit the app from the app switcher.

Step 3 — Start a new conversation

Long chats stall. Open a fresh chat and paste in only the context you still need.

Step 4 — Remove network interference

Disable VPNs, ad blockers and privacy extensions, then test in a private window.

Step 5 — Confirm you have messages left

Free and Pro plans cap messages on a rolling window. Wait for the reset or upgrade.

Step 6 — Try another client

If the web app fails but the mobile app works, the issue is local to your browser profile.
