cant sign in to claude with google

Fix Google OAuth login loops, popup blocks, and browser authentication issues on Claude.ai.

Updated 8/19/2026Powered by Tickd.ai

Using your Google Account is the quickest way to log into Claude, but authorisation loops, third-party cookie restrictions, and pop-up blocks can lock you out of your workspace. If you find that clicking the Google sign-in button simply refreshes the page or throws a vague authentication error, you can resolve the issue using the steps below.

If the OAuth screen loads to a blank page, it might be related to broader browser rendering; check our guide on what to do when the Claude app won't load to fix interface rendering issues.

Allow third-party cookies for Google login

Google's OAuth system requires your browser to share session cookies between accounts.google.com and claude.ai. If you have blocked third-party cookies in your browser settings, the authentication sequence will fail silently. Go to your browser settings, search for "Cookies", and ensure that third-party cookies are permitted for Anthropic domains, or add [*.]claude.ai as an exception.

Clear the Anthropic login subdomain cache

Corrupted cache files associated with the login gateway can cause continuous redirect loops. To clear this without losing all your browser history, open your browser settings and navigate to "Privacy and Security". Go to "Site Data", search for "anthropic" and "claude", and delete all associated storage. Restart your browser and attempt the Google login once more.

Use the passwordless email link alternative

If the Google OAuth integration remains broken, you can bypass it entirely while accessing the same account. Instead of clicking "Continue with Google", enter your Gmail address directly into the standard email input box and click "Continue with Email". Anthropic will send a temporary login link to your inbox. Clicking this link will bypass the Google gateway completely and sign you in securely.

Disable conflicting privacy extensions

Privacy extensions such as Privacy Badger, Ghostery, or strict built-in browser protections (like Brave's Shields) often block the background script that Google uses to verify your identity. Try disabling these tools temporarily. If you suspect a premium subscription sync issue is locking your account, see our guide on resolving Claude billing and payment problems.

Verify server capacity

During periods of extreme traffic, Anthropic's authentication servers can throw errors. Learn more about the Anthropic API 529 overloaded error and how server capacity affects your login. If the service is overloaded, wait a few minutes before trying to sign in again.
