claude history not syncing

Can't see your recent chats across devices? Fix Claude chat history sync errors between your phone, desktop app, and web browser.

Updated 8/16/2026Powered by Tickd.ai

Switching between your desktop browser and your mobile phone should show a seamless, updated list of your active conversations. When Claude fails to sync your chat history, recent chats may disappear, show outdated responses, or fail to load altogether on your secondary devices.

This guide will help you re-synchronise your conversations and secure your data.

Verify you are logged into the same account

It is incredibly easy to accidentally create duplicate accounts. If you typically log in via email authentication but click the 'Continue with Google' button on another device, Claude will create two entirely separate profiles. Double-check your account email in the settings menu of both devices to ensure they match exactly.

Perform a hard refresh on your browser

Web browsers cache directory states to speed up load times, which can prevent the newest database changes from appearing on your screen. Bypass this cache by performing a hard refresh. On Windows, press Ctrl+F5 in your browser. On macOS, press Cmd+Shift+R to force the browser to fetch the absolute latest conversation history from the server.

Sign out and sign back in on both devices

Logging out on both your mobile app and web browser forces Claude to invalidate your old session tokens. When you log back in, the client is forced to run a complete synchronisation cycle with the cloud database, which usually restores any missing chat histories immediately.

Check for server-side database delays

During periods of intense user traffic, Anthropic's database queues can experience delays. This causes a lag in synchronising chat lists across devices, even if individual chats are active. If you suspect the entire platform is experiencing infrastructure issues, check our guide on the Anthropic API 529 Overloaded Error to see if system capacity is degraded.

Check your billing and subscription status

If your Pro subscription fails to renew, temporary database locks or account tier changes can disrupt active sync processes across your active sessions. Ensure your billing details are up to date and your subscription is active by reviewing our tips on Claude Billing and Payment Problems to prevent account limitations.
